Michael Higgins B.V.Sc

Michael grew up on the family property ‘Leslie` outside of Warwick. After boarding school in Sydney he returned to Qld where he spent 5 years at St Leos College at the University of Qld where he graduated in 1979.

For the first two years post graduation he worked at The Oakey Vet Hospital then spent 12 months in Alice Springs working on the TB eradication program.

1983 saw him working in an equine practice in Mudgee NSW. In 1984 and 1985 he lived in the UK. During 1984 he worked in a mixed practice in Herefordshire and completed various locums and travelled extensively in 1985.

In 1986 he returned to Australia where he started with Dr. Fabian Fay at the Nerang Vet Practice.

Michael started his own practice in Nerang in 1988 as “Michael Higgins Veterinary Practice” in the Earle Plaza Shopping Centre. The practice was moved to purpose built premises in Tibbing Street, Nerang in 1993 and remained there for 16 years where Michael enjoyed working the majority of the large animal side of the mixed practice.

For 6 months in 2009 he worked again in a mixed practice in Norwich, England and travelled extensively in Europe & north/east Africa.

Michael commenced practice in Nerang in January 2010 with Nerang Equine Veterinary Practice.

Michael is married to Lucy and they have 4 adult children, Andrew 27, Rachel 25, Edward 23 and Nicholas 21yrs. Michael treasures his precious spare time and spends as much of it as possible with his family.

Michael is an all round sports fan particularly rugby league, rugby union and cricket. He is a great follower and fan of the Broncos, the Maroons, the Reds and the Wallabies making the “footy” season for him very enjoyable.

He continues to enjoy the company of his aging Jack Russell `Jack` who has since been retired after many years of ‘helping` with the vet rounds in the car.

Christine Perry B.V.Sc

Christine graduated from the University of Qld in 2000 and commenced at the Nerang Equine Veterinary Practice in October 2011.

Christine worked previously with Michael in practice in Nerang and she brings with her many years of equine Veterinary experience along with a passionate love of her own Percherons.

Christine is a great adventurer who lives on a Gold Coast canal where she can launch her kayak.

All her precious time off is spent either on her farm in the Numinbah Valley with her cattle and horses or climbing various rocks and mountains around the world.

Charmian Orr

Charmian has had a love of everything equine all her life.

She started her veterinary nursing career 10 years ago during which she studied her vet nursing Certificates 2 and 4.

She has worked with both Michael and Christine for most of the previous 8 years. She currently has a horse, Gloucester Road, and spends much of her spare time training and competing in dressage. She also owns `Blink` the cat.

Sandy Winkler

Sandy started at the Nerang Equine Veterinary Practice as a part time receptionist in August 2010 after having Michael as her personal vet for around 20+ years. In January 2012 Sandy commenced working full time in the office.

Sandy is now studying vet nursing (that has been a lifelong dream) and in her spare time fosters for the RSPCA and rides and competes in dressage and hacking.

Sandy loves anything four legged and furry, any opportunity to laugh, and the mandatory glass of any colour wine while she`s cooking tea and fending off screaming cats. (Not all her fostered cats find their way back to the refuge) Sandys` doctor says she has asthma, but she believes it`s just a fur ball!

` I think we have a genuinely devoted and caring team and it`s a pleasure to walk through the door every day for work. `

Sandy started working full time for Nerang Equine Vets in January 2012
